Retirement? Not quite.
Technical report still bears the hallmark of the Masa OriginalAndernach 17 janv. 2024 - According to the Federal Statistical Office*, almost half of all employees in Germany have worked for their current employer for at least ten years. Edgar Schmitz, a true Masa original, can easily exceed this figure. He has remained loyal to Masa for 48 years - even after his retirement. It was his expertise that was also the basis for the recently published report “It's the filling that counts”.
In 1975, iconic sports figures like Muhammad Ali and Niki Lauda captivated audiences at world championships, while Borussia Mönchengladbach clinched the UEFA Cup. Concurrently, a 16-year-old named Edgar Schmitz embarked on his professional journey. Fresh from completing his education at a technical college, he commenced an apprenticeship as a locksmith at Masa. Within two years, he proudly held his apprenticeship certificate.
Over the subsequent years, Schmitz showcased his expertise in mechanical engineering, mixer construction, hydraulics, and mould building. For a remarkable 13 years, he contributed to the global installation and commissioning of increasingly intricate block making plants as a vital part of the Masa service/installation team.
Edgar Schmitz's tenure brought invaluable experience, both for himself and his team. In 1996, his determination led to a well-deserved promotion to Assembly Inspector. With a discerning eye for the evolving product needs of customers, he served as a troubleshooter and specialist during the commissioning of special products. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the ongoing development of several Masa components and assemblies.
In 2011, Schmitz assumed the role of Head of After Sales Service, a position of great responsibility that allowed Masa to leverage his extensive professional background for over a decade. After an impressive 48-year tenure as a respected employee and colleague at Masa, Edgar Schmitz embraced active retirement in 2023. Remarkably, his dedication persists as he remains connected to Masa as a freelance specialist in concrete block production.
Succession
Sven Luy, the current successor within the company, has seamlessly stepped into the role, surpassing statistics with over 15 years of dedicated service at Masa. The transition at the helm of the division was meticulously orchestrated. Sven Luy is no newcomer to Masa Service; in his previous role as Head of Spare Parts Sales, he played a pivotal role in conceptualising and executing significant milestones for Masa.
Having already demonstrated his prowess in strategic leadership, Sven Luy has taken on the role of Director Customer Service. In this capacity, he spearheads the development of the department, adeptly manages its various activities, and serves as the primary point of contact for all inquiries pertaining to Masa After Sales Service.
Publication in the CPi
In partnership with Edgar Schmitz, a recent technical report for CPi has been successfully concluded, leveraging the extensive expertise of the Masa original. Positioned as a leading manufacturer of machines for the building materials industry, Masa considers itself a dynamic “source of ideas” and a trusted advisory partner in all aspects related to building materials production. Consequently, it was a natural progression to author a publication focused on the critical role of “filling” as a determinant of quality in concrete block production.
